wheelchair hire dawlish

Dawlish Community Transport is based in the Barton Hill Car Park in Dawlish, a registered charity and offers accessible and affordable transport services for people who may be unable to use public transport or need support in getting out and about (we are proud to be specialising in wheelchair transportation); helping to access shops, health appointments, services and leisure activities. We have a lovely team of mostly volunteers and a small team of staff.

We promote and support independence and social contact.

We have a great fleet of vehicles here, driven by our wonderful volunteers who give up their time to help in the community.

We operate several services using our minibuses and cars, transporting people of all ages; children from as young as 5 years to the not so young. Our most mature passenger at present is just 102.

We are proud to be the only service in Dawlish to offer wheelchair adapted vehicles with lowered steps and tail lifts to assist people of all abilities, cars and minibuses (up to 16 seats).

In partnership with Devon County Council Ring and Ride Service is a fundamental part of what we offer a door-to-door service during the week to enable you to remain independent and able to do your shopping*, banking, pay bills and get out and about in the community - for people living in East Teignbridge (from Exminster through to Ideford). These journeys not only offer a means of travel but passengers make some really grounded friendships with others in the knowledge and trust of an experienced member of staff driving; bringing people together. *We are not able to carry vast quantities of shopping but it enables you to get necessary items

We live in a beautiful part of the world and we try to capture this whilst ensuring we visit accessible places for any passenger travelling can to enjoy. We'll pick you up and return you home. These days can be a little longer to maximise the day as needed.

Our crucial Community Car Scheme is here to assist people to medical and social appointments, be it to the nearby GP surgery or to hospital appointments further afield. We have a lovely team of trained and friendly volunteers who assist, using their own vehicle or ours; some trained to carry wheelchair passengers. Booking in advance is essential as we get very busy. But, we do appreciate that there are times when appointments can be urgent or you are given little notice; so please do call and we will always do our utmost to support.

We have a small fleet of minibuses (up to 16 seats) and are able to hire them to assist affiliated groups to activities and events - such as luncheon groups, exercise classes, attend church on Sunday’s as well as bookings for trips out. We are also able to assist smaller groups using our cars as appropriate.

We have a hire service for electric scooters, wheelchairs and walking trollies; be it for local people wanting to hire for their Ring and Ride journey, whilst recovering from an illness or to get out and about around town as well as for holiday makers staying locally. All available for a small charge; being a charity we are not for profit, we keep our charges to a minimum to serve our community.

One passenger shared:
I wanted to say thank you for such a lovely, caring organisation. I now get a call from the driver 10mins (ish) before the bus gets here. I now get jobs done and can rest in return. My bags are always taken to the door. Everything drivers can do to make the journeys enjoyable, they do. Their driving is impeccable. Wow the roads and bad drivers they meet is done patiently and professionally. The office staff are also so helpful it was someone from the office who set up the calling system. It is all about the passengers’ comfort and enjoyment. SB

Please do give us a call to find out more and if you have any questions at all about what we do, our service, getting involved and or/becoming a volunteer
- there is so much we offer -
Or pop in to the office and meet us; Sally, Marian and Reg

Our dedicated and passionate volunteers are here to help; they are not carers but all share one thing in common, they all care (one has been with us for over 24 years). They tirelessly give up their time, whether it’s an hour a month or 3 days per week; each and every one is as valued and we are so truly grateful for all they do.
