Dawlish Community Transport

Dawlish Community Transport is based in the Barton Hill Car Park in Dawlish, a registered charity and offers accessible and affording transport services for people who may be unable to use public transport or need support in getting out and about (we are proud to be specialising in wheelchair transportation); helping to access shops, health appointments, services and leisure activities.  We have a lovely team of mostly volunteers and a small team of staff.

We promote and support independence and social contact.  All our vehicles are adapted to take wheelchairs and have lowered steps and tail lifts.

We have a great fleet of vehicles here, driven by our wonderful volunteers who give up their time to help in the community.

What do we do?

We operate several services using our minibuses and cars, transporting people of all ages; children from as young as 5 years to the not so young.  Our most mature passenger at present is just 105.

Ring and Ride Service – Monday to Friday

In partnership with Devon County Council Ring and Ride Service is a fundamental part of what we offer a door-to-door service during the week to enable you to remain independent and able to do your shopping*, banking, pay bills and get out and about in the community – for people living in East Teignbridge (from Exminster through to Ideford). These journeys not only offer a means of travel but passengers make some really grounded friendships with others in the knowledge and trust of an experienced member of staff driving; bringing people together.   *We aren’t able to carry vast quantities of shopping but it enables you to get necessary items

How to book a journey:

Choose the day you wish to travel

Give the office a call between 9.00am and 3.00pm to book (if you need to travel on the actual day, please call by 9.30am to check availability and book)

We aim to be return you home by 3.00pm (*apart from Tuesday’s; see below)

Payment can be given to the driver on the day; we won’t ask for it beforehand.

Tuesday’s

Why not join us for a social trip out on a Tuesday.  We go to lots of lovely places; Dartmoor, Sidmouth, Exmouth, Buckfast Abbey and several Garden Centres.  We live in a beautiful part of the world and we try to capture this whilst ensuring we visit accessible places for any passenger travelling can to enjoy.  We’ll pick you up and return you home.  These days can be a little longer to maximise the day as needed.

Testimonials

Before I came to you, I spent my holidays in a caravan or in the car as I can’t walk.  I couldn’t fit my scooter in the car but now I can go to the shops, the beach and walks with my mum.  I truly have a wonderful holiday here in Dawlish.

DR

You, your staff and volunteer drivers have helped me to remain independent. I’m moving away and will miss the banter, fun, ability to go shopping and trips on a Tuesday.  I really thank everyone who has helped me.  I will miss you all.

SB

I wanted to say thank you for such a lovely, caring organisation. I get a call from the driver 10mins (ish) before the bus gets here. I now get jobs done and can rest when I get home. My bags are always taken to the door. Everything drivers can do to make the journeys enjoyable, they do. Their driving is impeccable. Wow the roads and bad drivers they meet is done patiently and professionally. The office staff are also so helpful; it was someone from the office who set up the calling system for me. It is all about the passengers’ comfort and enjoyment.

SB

I am writing to express my gratitude to you, for the wonderful way you dealt with us, when my husband was ill on your bus.  You are undoubtedly an excellent example of deeply held decent values and caring for others. My sincere thanks.

GD

Thank you Dawlish Transport for a service above and beyond.  Friendly, happy, helpful people have made my disabilities not a problem to get out and about. I would be housebound on many occasions if it wasn’t for your help.
